Las Vegas: Day 3

closeHey, just so you know ... this post is now about 8 years and 10 months old. Please keep that in mind as it very well may contain broken links and/or outdated information.

We got to sleep in a bit this morning and following our pattern from yesterday, left the Strip in our rental car driving northwest to Red Rock Canyon.

After a brief stop at the visitor’s center we started driving around the 13-mile scenic route, stopping to hike the Calico Tanks trail (“2.5 miles round trip, moderately strenuous, rock scrambling and route finding skills recommended” 😉 ). I dare say I enjoyed it more than Camelback Mountain in Phoenix (although the trail we chose wasn’t as strenuous).

Later in the afternoon found us back at the Mandalay Bay, sipping frozen drinks by the pool enjoying the sunshine and views. Then it was time to find a bar to watch Game 6 of the Lightning/Red Wings NHL playoffs. After cleaning up in the hotel room, we hit the Strip again, eventually ending at the outdoor patio of the Double Barrel Roadhouse. There was some confusion getting the game on the TV near us (all of the “managers” were in a “meeting” and no one had the ability to change the channel from TNT) and the Lightning were already up 2-0 by the time we were able to actually watch. The Bolts finished strong, forcing a Game 7 back in Tampa on Wednesday with a 5-2 win. Yes! (tip: watch out for Golden Monkey … 9.5% ABV!)

After the game we walked through a few more hotels like the Monte Carlo, Tropicana, and Hooters on our way back to the hotel room to prep for dinner. At 9:00pm we had reservations at Strip Steak and it was fantastic. Afterwards, we headed up to the Mix Lounge at the top of the Delano for a nightcap and fantastic view of the Strip.

It’s hard to believe the trip is over already and tomorrow we fly home …
