Southwest Road Trip: Day 3

closeHey, just so you know ... this post is now about 7 years and 1 month old. Please keep that in mind as it very well may contain broken links and/or outdated information.

After a quick breakfast at the hotel we were back on US 160 heading east for our last big day of driving.

At Pagosa Springs we turned south on US 84 and eventually crossed into New Mexico. We stayed on 84 until Española (with a stop for a brief snowball fight on the continental divide and in Abiquiú for gas) and then veered west after deciding to make a stop in Los Alamos. After a quick trip through the Bradbury Science Museum we headed back to the highway and continued on to Santa Fe.

We had planned to go to The Shed for lunch, but it was closed between lunch and dinner. So we tried walking over to El Callejon Taqueria but it was closed too! By that point we were just hungry and ended up at Rooftop Pizzeria overlooking the square. We had wanted Tex Mex for lunch but the pizza was pretty good. After lunch we walked around downtown a bit (including a stop at the Loretto Chapel to view the “miraculous staircase”) before getting back in the car and continuing south (finally back on an interstate, I-25!) to Albuquerque.

After checking into the hotel we drove over to the Sandia Peak Tramway hoping to catch the sunset. We were a little later than anticipated but still had a gorgeous view of the sunset from 10,378 feet. It was a lot colder at the top so we didn’t stay long. It was warmer back at the parking lot, though, so we stopped at Freddy’s for some frozen custard before returning to the hotel and turning in for the night.

Tomorrow we do some sightseeing in Albuquerque and then fly home!
