Back to the playoffs

closeHey, just so you know ... this post is now about 13 years and 7 months old. Please keep that in mind as it very well may contain broken links and/or outdated information.

Congratulations Rays!

With their win over Baltimore tonight, the Tampa Bay Rays clinched their second playoff berth in three years, eliminating the Red Sox from the wildcard race. Now they just need to hold on for the remaining few games, hopefully extend their half-game lead over the Yankees, and win the Eastern division.

  1. The Rays won (in extra innings), and the Yankees lost, meaning the Rays locked up the AL East Division Championship on the last day of the regular season! Talk about down to the wire … way to go Rays! Having the best record in the American League, the Rays will have home field advantage during the ALCS.

Another sports season ends in disappointment for me, and in a disturbingly familiar trend:

“But more than a playoff game or series was at stake for the Rays. This may have been their best chance at a World Series title. And it could be the last chance to win a championship for quite a while.”

Just like my Cavs were dismantled back in July, Carl Crawford and Carlos Pena, among others, will probably not be with the team next year.

Oh well … on the flip side I can now start looking forward to spring training.
