Spring Training 2015: Day 3

closeHey, just so you know ... this post is now about 8 years and 11 months old. Please keep that in mind as it very well may contain broken links and/or outdated information.

Our last full day in Arizona. 🙁

We woke up at a more normal time this morning, intending to go to breakfast at the Black Bear Diner before heading over to batting practice in Goodyear. We got a later start than expected, though, so we ended up dropping my brother off at the training facility and then going to pick up a “to go” breakfast instead. We ended up with Express Donuts (next door to Nothing Bundt Cakes) which were pretty yummy (and only $4 for half a dozen!) and ate while waiting for the Indians to come out to practice. It turned out that we could have gone to Black Bear because practice started late due to the night game yesterday. Doh!

By 11:30am we were standing outside the right field fence of practice field #1 attempting to chase down foul/home run balls during batting practice. Between the three of us we shagged six. Three were mine but I gave one to an elderly gentleman that I had beaten to the ball down in a ravine (full of pricker bushes and mud!) behind the field. He had taken a nasty spill on the gravel earlier trying to chase one down.

At noon we headed over to the ballpark to eat lunch and then watch the game, our Indians vs. the Colorado Rockies. The Tribe made up for last night’s big loss and in our last game of the trip we finally saw a win, 10-5.

We drove back to the hotel around 5:00pm and watched some more basketball was freshening up for dinner. We had a 6:30pm “reservation” (really just call-ahead seating) at Rustler’s Rooste for our traditional end-of-trip steak dinner. The place was packed so we waited outside on the upper deck watching the sunset until we were seated shortly after 7pm. The food (next year we need to try the rattlesnake!), wine, company, and experience was terrific, as usual, a fitting end to the vacation.

Around 9:30pm we were back at the hotel, unfortunately packing for our flights home tomorrow …
