Into the New York state (of mind)

closeHey, just so you know ... this post is now about 13 years and 8 months old. Please keep that in mind as it very well may contain broken links and/or outdated information.

I’m sitting at Gate E68 in the Tampa International Airport waiting for my flight to New York’s LaGuardia Airport. I’m heading to Manhattan for a 10-day business trip, the primary objective of which is the upgrade of our PeopleSoft financials system over the weekend.

So far, the trip has been smooth. Within 15 minutes of being dropped off at the airport I had checked my bag at the ticket counter, gotten through security, and was standing in line at Starbucks for an Americano. The flight is oversold (no surprise) but should be leaving on time.

Update 10:30am EDT: I’m in the car on my way into the city from LaGuardia. The flight was great, no issues. It even had in-flight WiFi, which I didn’t use since it was expensive, but I did connect my iPhone to see what would happen and saw this cool message:

In fact, my trip continues to be very smooth: we landed early, my luggage came out at the baggage claim fairly quickly, and I only had to wait 5 minutes for the car. It’s rainy and overcast …

Update 12:14pm EDT: I made it to the office. So my issue-free trip hit a slight snag when the hotel didn’t have a room ready for me for early check-in. If that’s the worse problem I have on this trip, though, that’s okay.

Update 7:15pm EDT: once I got into my hotel room it reminded me this is the same place I stayed last year when I was (again) in New York on business. The sad memory is that I was in this hotel room, in this same hotel, on the same side of the building, with the same view, when I watched the Cavaliers lose to the Magic in Game 6 of the Eastern Conference finals. 🙁
